Vines, Views, and Vinaigrette

On Thursday, after the rain lifted and took my pity party with it, hubby and I decided to have our belated Valentines Day lunch. He had to work Tuesday and I am just terrible at getting anything done on a Monday or Tuesday. I think I get paralyzed on hubby’s working days or maybe I’m just overwhelmed doing everything solo {remember, there is a reason my kiddos are 8 years apart!}. It totally worked out though because the earlier part of the week was plagued with poopy weather. Also my super awesome mother in law sent us a gift card … Continue reading

The Most Important Thing

My husband loves me.   Deeply.   Intensely.   So much so, that sometimes, it is hard to take it all in. Hard to believe that I get all of this just for being. Or specifically, for being me.   I don’t feel worthy.   And I cannot believe my luck.   How did I land such a man?   Today after getting my hair done, totally re-done, cut, styled, fancy peek-a-boo highlights, the whole shebang….     ….I come home to a husband that is so thrilled with the results that he really wants to get me upstairs.   … Continue reading

Top 10 Excuses Why I Haven’t Posted Much This Week

10. Hubby is on nights: As you found out, my 6 months of normal life were up and my coach turned into a pumpkin. Now hubby comes home at 5 am, sleeps all day, and leaves me stuck with bedtimes. By the time I’m done with that drama, I am too tired to stay up to blog. And I can only blog at night because… 9. Camden refuses to sleep or cooperate in general: It’s been a rough week for mama. In addition to not having much help from the husband, I have been dealing with baby that won’t nap, … Continue reading

Friday Brain Dump

I think Beth Anne over at The Heir to Blair has something with this Friday Brain Dump thing. What else am I going to do with all of my half-baked blog posts?? Speaking of baked… 1. Sugar wins: Despite all of my attempts to bake healthy stuff, the very unhealthy Kentucky Butter Cake (which will be posted Saturday, hopefully) and hubby’s Apple Cinnamon Coffee Cake overtook my diet. The healthy muffins got moldy. Of course I didn’t realize this until after I popped one in my mouth. Ew. 2. Camden is a saver: I am pretty sure Camden is saving all of … Continue reading

Dear Camden

Dear Camden, my little pooks, it’s hard to believe that you are 5 months old already! It seems impossible that it was 5 months ago that you came into our lives; mine, dad’s, and brother’s, and made the world a smiley, happy, goobery place. Our lives just weren’t quite complete until you came along. Tyler was lonely, dad needed his baby fix, and mom needed, well, we’ll just call it  perspective. You solved all of those things for us, just by existing! But you do so much more than exist. You light up our lives with the tiniest things … Continue reading

So You Bought Your Kid an iPod: They Know What They’re Doing, Do You?

Back in 2010 when I got my first iPhone, I gave my iPod touch to my then 7 year old with instructions to only download free apps. One $21 iTunes bill later, I discovered the world of “in-app purchases”. I wrote an article for Mom Logic about the experience and despite my 78 Facebook likes, a few moms were less than gracious about my ignorance. Well after having several iProducts for the last 2 or so years I have learned a thing or two about how to use all of the awesome settings to a) make sure the thing doesn’t … Continue reading

And Then There Was One

Winter Vacation is officially over and Tyler has returned back to school. It has been a busy three weeks of holidays, family, friends, baking, and just plain tomfoolery in this house. As much as I am really big on having a schedule, I’m really going to miss having my big guy around screwing it up. There will be no more 8 am leisurely wake-ups (if such a thing is even possible with a  4 month old), hot lunches for two, mom can so-and-so come over, or alarms going off while I’m in the shower because somebody wants to hurry and get their … Continue reading

Why Moms Blog and Laundry is for Suckers

So apparently my Fairy Godmother post was a wee bit controversial or perhaps just misunderstood. The post  was supposed to be funny. Yes, funny in a sort of self-deprecating way but that’s just my style. Maybe it makes some people uncomfortable but maybe you aren’t my audience (just sayin’). Ultimately some of the reactions to the post brought up some strong feelings in me and the realization that the idea behind mommy blogging is not quite as mainstream as I thought. There are many reasons a mom might take to blogging but one of the most salient reasons is that blogging provides … Continue reading

Texas Toast Sloppy Joes

Who doesn’t love a good old fashioned sloppy joe?  I grew up on their yummy tomato-ey ground beef goodness (remember when school cafeteria lunches were delicious? Or ground beef was cheap?). The most awesome part was the bread options: open face, sandwich-style, ghetto style on toast (’cause buns cost extra), chopped up with bread like warm panzanella (more like goulash, panzanella was definitely not in the 80′s housewife vernacular). The first time I resurrected the meal, I served it up to my family ghetto-style because we simply don’t need all of that bread or the inevitable bread pudding I would be forced … Continue reading

The Fairy Godmother Doesn’t Live Here Anymore

I admit it, I feel a twinge of envy when I see other moms looking cute while running their errands. You know which moms I’m talking about: designer jeans in a size much smaller than mine; cute, current-year, current-season tops straight out of a magazine; perfectly highlighted and coiffed hair; and a well-behaved baby or toddler to complete the look. I, on the other hand, look like a hag with my too-long straggly hair and faded clothes from 2008. Sometimes I may put in a slight effort and slap some make-up on and flat iron just the top layer of … Continue reading
